Dark-sky score

Each city moonrise page includes a dark-sky score for tonight: a 0–100 grade that blends moon illumination, typical light pollution (Bortle class), and how much of astronomical night the Moon spends above the horizon.

How to read the score

  • Excellent / Good — darker windows for Milky Way or meteor watching.
  • Fair / Poor — moonlight or urban skyglow dominates; lunar detail is still easy.
  • Bright — near-full moon or heavy light pollution; plan deep-sky work for another night.

Scores are heuristic guides, not weather forecasts. Clear, dry air still matters more than any number.
